Kinda soon after the first one, but whatever probably will be fun. I like the idea of random routes being blocked off, making you a bit nervous about going through different routes. I just hope the finals are less about "Hide in the closet".

I will not buy it. I am not satisfied with the first one at all. I don't think they should be putting out a sequel to a game that doesn't even have enough content as it is.

Are they basically gonna give up on improving L4D and making it an actual full game to instead focus on L4D2 even though TF2 has proven that free expansions are the way to go since they get amazing sales sales each patch release?
They should charge like $5 for L4D owners to "upgrade" to L4D2 if thats how its gonna go.

Could take it a while to release, delays etc. Besides it could just be an expansion vs a full content patch. I doubt l4d will be left by the wayside buth oh well. I got tired of l4d being a camp in one spot and win by bug's.

Not buying the hype like I did with the first one.
They had a playable version in 05 or 06 at quakecon and it was a blast. Watching gameplay video's or playing demo's is how I decide to buy. Otherwise I just dont. I can trust friends opinions but eh.
The random path choices sounds great in l4d2. I still think its going to end up being more of an expansion to bring in the major system changes which is why they are not going with a patch to the origional which has a base and people would probably get pissed if it changed too much. Happend in TFC.

the hype was hoping the gdk would come out so we could get some user made content in there. right now, its too console-esqe.

So there's some new gameplay footage:

The most noticeable change is that the infected have body morphing. They are physically damaged depending on where you hit them. Second, there appears to be the occasional "uncommon" common infected. Like random guys in haz-mat suits that are immune to fire. There's also the meelee weapons, new primary weapons, a new ammo type, a new boss infected called the "charger," a new type of crescendo event where you sound an alarm and have to race to find the off button. It even looks as though the witch walks now, which would be pretty challenging/fun in tight spaces. All and all, I'd say Valve made a pretty good expansion pack. Unfortunately, they'll be charging $50 for it. For this reason, I will not get it (at least until they drop the price.)
There's one thing that could make me forgive them. Child zombies. Small swarms of faster-moving small zombies would be a pretty interesting game play mechanic.

I actually like L4D a lot. But I will agree taht it's content is sorely limited especially in comparison to TF2 (user generated maps aside). I am also concerned that L4D support will drop substantially now which is annnoying since it really got only one major content upgrade.
Problem is I think L4D just doesn't have the replay value TF2 does as TF2 they keep adding things that change how you play (via weapons, new map types) etc. L4D has had no such changes save for Horde.
I dunno, if enough of you guys L4D2 I may get it, otherwise I'll probably not bother and spend my money elsewhere. Starcraft 2 is coming out this year afterall.

I think the main reason they're making a sequel instead of free add-ons (or even an expansion) is because it has a pretty strong console audience too. You can tell from just the design of the multiplayer in general that it is a console game. And with console games, you can make more money from tedious sequels than you can releasing extra content.

Patsy and I have already made levels with random paths, limited ammo/weapons/random weapons spawns. Its really easy, and I don't see why we can't have this as just an update to L4D, rather than a whole now completely unnecessary sold out to EA for the XBOX gamers version...
Also made events where you have to find a switch to turn off the panic, and plan for a finale where the survivors get saved one at a time, and the rescued guys have to help out with only sniper rifles.
Its just new maps that they don't want to give out, with prettier deaths and melee weapons that you don't need (Melee bash, anyone?)

Well I played through the demo twice on normal. I must say its got a different feel about it. Ammo is not quite as hard to find (only played in normal mode) different options, weapons etc all that you already know. So far I enjoy it a lot more thanks to quality melee and such. My mouse arm was so sore after any L4D from the hard pistol mouse clicking. Overall I like it. Hopefully tomorrow I can play through it on the hard modes to really have fun.

I'm not sure how I feel about the game on a whole.
I don't doubt that I will buy it... Almost sure I will buy the American version and only play it with a yank ping. Simply because I'm totally offended that they took away my precious gore.
All in all I agree with Grassman. Totally upset that they decided to charge us full price for a totally new game when it's just a expansion on the previous that they should of AT LEAST attached on to it so we don't have to switch between the two games to play the maps. Even if they charged us a little less for it I'd be happy. I know how much effort goes into making a game. How much money a company will throw into it. Developers and artists aren't cheap now days. A high budget game is beginning to scrape into the hundreds of millions.
But really you all don't know how good you have it with games. For me to walk into EB right now and purchase any single good game for PC, I will walk out with a wallet about $120 lighter. Any new console game will set me back $150. No wonder piracy is such a common thing in this country. Not to mention the fact that I don't know a single person with a Xbox that's not modded. PS3s are a different matter, then again I know a total of two people who own those. Not really a surprise one of those is my ridiculously rich brother who can afford to spend that much money on games.
When it comes down to it, are you willing to spend $50 on something that will give you joy? If you liked the first one, chances are you'll love the second one. It's not really that evil what the decided to do here and the less crying about it the better. So Valve sold out just a tad... It's nothing when you look at the money chucked into games* like WoW each month.
Don't get your panties in a bunch over a company charging you money for something it spent money creating. They will throw the excess into the company and we will see more interesting new games. The more money a company has the more free reign for creative licence.
There. My rant is over.
*I say games here. WoW is not a game. It's a full time job and you should get paid to play the fucker.

Lol yes, WoW is evil.
After watching the vids and seeing how much was changed in the game to improve it I immediately decided it was worth the money to me. I know this one will have much greater re playability than the original did for me.
In the first one it felt fairly scripted, wait 2 minutes in one spot you get a hoard rush blah blah, get to one spot, set up and get ready then call the hoard in zzz.
Worst of all was the reliance on the pistols, brutal on my arm after one round.
In the demo at one point you walk into an area and trigger an alarm, which calls the hoard that does not stop coming until you turn off the alarm. Once disabled it takes a few seconds for the hoard to stop coming and then you have to kill them all off. With the melee weapons you have to be careful with the rushing groups but you can do a lot of group damage which is hilariously fun, machete limbs off of multiple infected and such.
I sat in one spot all alone the other night while the rest of my team wandered off and no hoard came. So its not as predicable as before. Daytime adds a lot to the game, as do the new weapons.
I like the first one but this one is a lot better and worth the price IMO. Cant wait to try VS's as some of the new infected types.... Also liking the addition of defibrillators.

I tinkered with those drivers a while ago, gave me a huge headache. Neat tech but not quite there yet. I did it in CS:S and I think TF2 but dont remember
