THanks for the post. I was sure that horse was dead, or the game makers had retired to Florida by now.
Not sure what to think about this. I would very much like this to be an amazing upgrade from the original but...the trailer and media screens didn't look all that much different to me (except for the Gumby legged Onos). certainly not 7 years better. In-game footage needed.
If the person who was in charge of making the game-play changes to the original, was not in charge this time around, that would be promising.
Also, I'd need to play a demo before putting up money for it.
All that said....if it turns out to be as good as the original (the early months, by todays standards), then...I'm in. I'll start saving now for our second server. ;)

charlie is still leading it
it should be good. i've been keeping up with their blog posts. they've got an interesting lighting and dynamic infestation system in place which is really cool. stuff grows dynamically which is really cool. sounds like they have a product thats ready to be alpha tested, with beta tests probably coming in august and a launch on halloween

I know zervun has a total boner for NS2, and I also know Z isn't really interested in 2 servers due to the cost of bandwidth. This would mean the end of tf2 phlorph, which will be a VERY sad day.

That would indeed be a sad day.
If they can remake the community I will enjoy playing it, but thats why I stopped the first one. Community was just crap. Played it from the start too :| Very fun and different mod.

It was a great game in the early months. We had some epic battles on DoGS/Elasticalgomez server. I remember one taking over 3 hours to be decided (pretty sure Zerv was in on that one). one side coming to the brink of death only to have some miracle hail mary play put them back in it and then they came with in a hair of killing of the other team and then.....back it slowly went the other way...etc etc. (I'm sure I lost a couple of pounds during that game. exhausting). It was a great game if you loved that sort of thing. you definitely had to be a team player.
If you only cared about personal stats then you and your team would die fast (or we'd ban you) ;)
hopefully now, with them needing to whore the game out to the masses so they can make more profits and keep investors happy, the game will be geared more towards the enjoyment of the recreational player. I sure hope so. greed is good.
Phlorph NS2 would be fanfuckingtastic.

Sounds interesting, maybe I'll give it a shot when it comes out. Another game that seemed to emphasize an insane amount of teamwork that I've played is called "Zombie Panic". It pitted survivors vs Zombies. The zombies get a ton of respawns, but are weak and there starts with just a few of them. The humans get guns and stuff, but once they die they turn into a zombie, and they run out of ammo pretty quickly.

i've had dozens of 3-5 hour long games in NS1 with good players on both sides. epic battles indeed. even if you are on the losing side, desperation moves are so fun. like dropping a command chair in a vent
celerty + leap + xenocide ftw

I really liked being a support player as a combat fatty (gorge). Especially in the beginning as an offensive web assassin. good times.

That was my favorite class as well, although I never used the webbing that much.
I preferred to build up and such. Only offense class I could really get to work was the skulk. The flying one, the preying mantis one and the rhino never let me control them properly lol.

lerk was probably my most favorite. though as a fatty, it was really fun to build up a wall of offense chambers

they unfortunately nerfed the webbing later on, but for a while there, if you were patient, you could really screw with a pack of marines. web em, spit on them, then just as they were starting to break loose, web em again and start spitting again. It took time, but on one day, I got lucky and killed 3 soldiers in one go (they had a bad commander and no welder). took a long time but it was funny as hell. Even the soldiers had a good laugh (except one who was always bitching about something. especially when someone killed him by out smarting him. which made it even funnier to me).
this talk and tripping down memory lane is really getting me excited about playing NS again.

Lets not keep our panties in a bunch - NS2 is essentially still vaporware. I'll do whatever I can to keep botha TF2 and NS2 server going if it comes to that.
I might need a little help from the community, but for the moment don't worry about it. Phlorph is a Tf2 server now only -
I've also considered doing some hosting on peoples houses that have FIOS *ahem* which entails alot more bandwidth. Lets play it by ear.
I'm sure not alot of people would be put off with a minor fee per month for 2x cutting edge games that they have reserve slots in, and I'm not talking $10 a month like some of the other "paid" reserve slot servers are, more like price of a pint.

i'd gladly contribute to a phlorph ns2 server if you decide to start one zerv.
