There won't be an Engy Update: The class will have been mooted by then.:o

Man, this looks great for spies! Its interesting that there are two watches, since it implies two unlocks for the same slot(And really, what else could they get rid of?).

The "Dead Ringer" looks amazing, I can see spies inflicting massive amounts of paranoia now! As a soldier every time I kill a spy I'll be wondering if I actually took him out or not.

i bet when you do the whole play dead thing, it doesn't report your death, thus should be easy to tell what happened

I knew they would not let the TFC death feint die, they had to bring that back. That was the best part of being a spy in TFC lol.

My two best classes and I cant play either of them for months :| Oh well.

Love it and dislike it

Dead Ringer comments: People will keep spy checking now even if you die so it might make it useless

Cloak & Dagger comments: Hiding in the corner waiting for it to be recharged would be the same as being cloaked in a corner hoping not to get brushed isn't it?

indeed, they usually have some sort of way to tell whats going on.

so am i following this? sniper *and* spy update? thats what satan seems to be saying, it was my impression all the sniper stuff before now was just a cover up to announce the spy update instead.

To a point, except your not worried about your cloak running out in 2 seconds while they are still looking at your location. Depending on the corner people wont brush you but if they see you, your shadow, or your gun your toast.

This one will at least give you a little different play style. As it is I try to move about cloaked when I can reach an ammo pack around the time my cloak is out so I can recharge some. This way I can just find a quiet corner for a few seconds to give me a chance to build it up. This will also help with escapes but not so much so that it unbalances things.

I am very interested in the cloak and dagger, it fits my play style as spy very well. I'll definitely give the dead ringer a show though, it obviously has some advantages.

I'll still be sticking with sniper for a while post update, it's the only class I like almost as much as pyro.

That said, this update confuses me a bit because it looks like the spy is getting new watches but no replacement for any o fhis existing weapons. At least so far.

seems like its a partial update for each of them. also : they said that there would be an update with stuff for all classes (presumably the thus far empty "helmet" slot), and not a peep about that so far.

and if people just keep spychecking for "dead" spies, then thats just that much longer they are delayed in getting to the goal, whatever that happens to be at the time. not only that, but assuming they dont notice whatever notifier is created that lets you know the spy is not in fact dead yet (like probably no report on you getting a kill) then at least they are extreamly paranoid for a while with no cause, again wasting time and attention for possibly no reason. it doesnt reflect very well in digital sense, but on the whole it can bring a collective value in an intangible sense.

.... this Throwback Mountain Dew must be making me excessively wordy for some reason.

shacknews have said they've confirmed that the helmets will be released this update, and that it is both the sniper and spy update. everything is scheduled to be out the 21st, which is thursday of next week, so we still have 3 MAYBE 4 days of update announcements.

Those that were asking, this is where I saw that both the sniper and spy are being update, not just the spy.

Update: Valve's Doug Lombardi has confirmed to us that the update will include both the Spy and Sniper unlockables.

The free update will now encompass the Sniper and Spy unlockable weapons, the Payload Race game mode, two new Arena maps, and cosmetic head-slot items for all classes. According to the TF2 blog, the whole package will be released on May 21, or next Thursday.

I cannot believe Jarate is now real O_o

Though I'm wondering how useful the flame dousing is, the sniper isn't generally near a lot of his team mates. Unless the bow is changing that a bit.

Yeah, I am suprised that he got the stun upgrade. Fits better with the spy but it should be fun. I wont get to use them for a long time but receiving will be interesting

I'm a little disappointed that Jarate was the unlock. It doesn't seem overpowered to me, but its kinda lame(and gross).

It all depends if the bow makes snipers go into the field then heck yes it's OP if he is on top of the battlements like on 2fort where no one really is then it might be manageable.

Yeah, but when are any of those useful for the sniper. Sniper already does a ton of damage, 35% more isn't gonna make a difference(and costs him some valuable time he could use headshotting me). Shorting out the cloak doesn't really matter because if a spy gets that close the sniper is probably dead already. And say what you might, the LAST place I'm going to get my fire set out is the sniper. Not to mention its probably got a long cool down and a slow momentum(and an arc) and you lose a weapon for it(although if its the SMG its probably ok as a sidegrade).

Not overpowered in the least.

I'm with Levi on this, it sounds weak and more like the hallucinogen grenade from TFC with some perks. How long with the damage bonus last?

IMO the Sandman and that #$@*!!! baseball are OP bs. Gotten better but still has issues.

Once we see how the jarate affects game play we shall see how it is. Just because I play sniper does not mean I will like it. I doubt I will trade it for my SMG or knife.... Especially if I get my surround sound working properly again.

Cloak and dagger seems useful for people who like that play style. However, that's definitely not me. I've barely got enough of an attention span to play this game at all let alone to sit still waiting for cloak to recharge. I can't even last the 20 second respawn without switching to firefox and reading something in between rounds. I like the fact that you have a limited time as a spy. I liked it even more when you couldn't recharge by picking up ammo, and when you had a longer backstab animation. Why? Because now it's just too easy (not any easier than other classes, I just thought it was fun back in the day when it was harder).

Dead Ringer sounds intriguing but I doubt I'd ever bother using it other than to screw around with people who are too noob to realize what's happening.

Now, the ambassador however, I think I'll definitely use and I think it will *really* piss everyone off. Generally I'd say the spy pistol is too good to switch out, and given the ambassador recharge time it's definitely going to be disadvantaged short range, BUT when you take the benefits of the ambassador and combine it with the benefits of the past spy updates? You now have me far behind you, out of everyone except the snipers range, cloaked, ABLE TO SEE YOUR HEALTH, and 1 shotting all the injured people before cloaking again (so far back you probably wont even see me before I pop around a corner and cloak again). Rinse and repeat those single shot/cloak cycles a few times and what do you have? A really pissed off blue team :P

response to whole post.

Lol, I was going to do the same thing whenever I get the gun.

I dont mind the faster back stab animation, as it fixes some of the bugged problems with missing so many stabs when you get the full animation. I am Iffy with the ammo recharging cloak, there are times I liked it the old way, and times I like it this way so eh.

The recharge when standing I dont think will change game play at all really.

Lol Charles, its not working properly now anyway :( but soon.... hehe

With my lag I cant really test it but without zoom its not a perfect easy shot from distance, it does hit hard but it took me 4 shots point blank on a sapped lvl 1 SG to take it out. Its cool down is just about right though. I like it

Thats why I wish they would make it so you actually have to kill someone with it and hope they drop it. Would make it more of an event instead of ill just sit in spec for 6 hours and get a few :|

Its power is nice if you hit right. The distance accuracy is also very nice.

If they fix how the weapons are supposed to work as it says on their blog I wouldn't mind so much. However the incentive for achievments really has died since that.

At the very least you sholdn't be able to get these things in spectate.
