The game I would pick for game of the year. Great story, great gameplay, can't put it down. The immense world, amazing array of enemies, and a ridiculous arsenal makes this game one of the few that lives up to the hype.

This game needs a thread.

I have heard good things about it, but have not decided whether or not to pick it up yet.

it's definitely great. I was worried it wouldn't live up to the previous games since it's now being handled by someone else... but that worry was crushed.

I would agree with M4C about Fallout 3 except for one thing. They got rid of prostitution.

In Fallout 2 was very patriarchal. There were very few women in positions of power, so (if your character was a woman) being able to prostitute yourself for money/information was somewhat beneficial (in spite of the patriarchal society.) It wasn't a BIG gameplay element, but it helped convey the message that the world had become a tribal dystopia, with tribal dystopian values. I.E Women were treated as property.

The world of Fallout 3, on the other hand, is very PC by comparison. Sure, there's the gore, but there's no sleaze. The town whore-house had exactly one whore and all you could do was pay her to sleep next to you. The developers said in an interview that they took all the sex elements out of the game because they didn't want moms to get mad. I hate this video game hysteria bullshit. Killing people in an incredibly gruesome manner is just harmless fun, but the second anyone mentions that men and women have different organs people start loosing their minds!

Apart from that, though, the game is very good. The auto-aim thing doesn't overshadow the fps portion like I was afraid it would, the tutorial prologue is very creative, and the world is amazingly big. I've been playing since it came out and I've barely done anything with the main story. I keep getting interested in the places between where I am and where I need to be. The number of different skills allows for such a wide range of play methods (minus the previously mentioned) that I'll definitely be playing it again.

I got home and my brother had already beat it. Fuck man, that kid's nuts. I just spent 3 hours on it, it's getting nuts. I spent 2 out of those 3 hours just exploring and doing shit that was not productive with the story at all, but it found me some cool shit haha

In this game you can totally skip chunks of the main story if you're not careful.

Finger, have you tried the Black Widow or Lady Killer perks? They add a little more spice to conversations with certain NPCs of the opposite gender. One example off the top of my head, if you're playing a female character and talk to Mr. Burke at the beginning of the game, you can use your feminine wiles to open up an interesting option. It got a giggle out of me, anyway. I haven't played the other two Fallouts, but my Fallout fanboy buddy voiced a similar complaint.
(I won't even go into Paradise Falls and all the "fun" that can be had with a certain weapon from there.)

I started up two new characters after achieving a preliminary run through the main story, and am now playing each at one end of the karma spectrum. So far, the evil character has better leveling, money, armor, etc, but it hasn't been as fun because I've just been gibbing everything that moves, and have missed out on a lot of engaging story. Playing a good character gives you a lot more interaction with people and places, and is extremely engaging.

My first play through I want to experience both sides of the Karma and get as much out of it as possible. I'm already 24 hours in, and have been as good as possible, as evil as possible, and neutral. It's the best of both worlds, money, gear, funny conversations, and I still get sucked into the story.

I'm just glad I had Thursday and Friday off to get my Fallout fix.

phlorph has been dead the last few days while ive been fallouting, and it disgusts me

And your part of the problem with it being dead by playing other games all the time :p

I saw it empty at prime time last night so I went elsewhere. Most of the people on my list were stuck in other games :) I played on a different server for the first time in like 6 - 8 months. Was so confusing having a less than 20 ping I couldnt kill anything.
