I have done softmods on 2 Xbox v1 to make them media center boxes. If anyone knows how to do python programming let me know.
This mod is a non-invasive and allows you to ftp directly to your Xbox hard drive. Once you have the mod in you can play divx, mp4, vob movies on your tv, display photos, stream youtube or rss feeds and play mp3s through the network.
I am by no means an expert at this but I would be glad to share what I have experienced on this if anyone wants to re-purpose an old Xbox.
There are low cost dedicated wireless adapters to make the box wireless as well.
