Anyone else looking forward to this? I like the idea of the new syringe gun, I'd gladly give up crits for the health bonus it gives :)

It'll be interesting to see how these work out...
Here's some more info with a pic of the ubersaw (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167415)
And finally, the achievements needed to get these new weapons. (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52249)
Getting 10 million total healing is gonna be fun...especially if it doesn't retroactively add your previous totals. I think I saw somewhere that only two people on steam have over 10 million healing, both with over 300 hours played on Medic.

Are they going to be doing this for all classes? Or is this just a gimick to get more people to be medics?
Anyway, I wonder if you'd be able to have one medic Ubering a player while another Critzcriegs that same player.

They said they were eventually doing it with all classes, but they decided on medics first due to it being the least played class.
I'm curious about the uber/critzcreig combo also, seems pretty scary idea.
Oh right, one more thing, the "Meet the Scout" video is coming out tomorrow!

These achievements are going to take a lot of cooperation. Some of them probably won't even be possible without thorough planning beforehand. Where do you see how much total healing you've done?
Mostly, though, I am irritated! They still haven't fixed the corrupted stats from the original release. So, I am limited for being an early customer? Weak.

I thought they already had fixed it. We got the game at the same time and my achievements are fine.

Mine aren't. The achievements are triggered when a certain number is reached and, after the "reset" they left me with more points than the trigger number. I've played it, I can't un-play it!

To find the medic stats, go to your team fortress 2\tf directory and open tf2_playerstats.dmx in notepad. Find "comment: classname" "string" "Medic" and look above it for "iHealthPointsHealed" "int" "#" where # = your total points healed.
Mine indicate it will take 240 hours more of playtime as medic to get ten million total heal points. Discouraging.

I'm not so sure how the no crits will play out for syringe gun junkies like me, because crit needles do alot of damage. When I get a string of crits with my gun I can take out demo men, soldiers, and heavys without to much trouble. The life giving needles will definately help when I'm trying to back away from pyros though. Sorry Rhaz, with that gun expect my KDR to go up on you :)!

That gun is my worst nightmare!
Now I will just know to get the hell out of there if the medic fights back :P

I have 250 hours as medic currently and about 9 mil healing so...

I only had 22 hours as medic at the time of that writing and it was my most played class. The achievement is only 1 million heal points now so I am no longer discouraged. Only 80,000 points to go!

I figure since its Pyro news, I might as well be the first one to spread it.
The first weapon of the Pyro update has been released. "The Axtinguisher" (HAHA, get it?! It's like Extinguisher, but it's an Axe instead! Valve is so hilarious!)
The upcoming Pyro update bound for Valve's multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 is "almost completely wrapped" and will include changes to the core class beyond the addition of unlockable weapons and achievements, the company revealed in a Steam client update today.
One of the new weapons, dubbed the Axtinguisher, does about half the damage as the standard axe but will guarantee a critical hit when striking enemies set ablaze by the Pyro's flamethrower. The update included concept art of this new weapon.
The post added that the class will see "significant changes" that will be enacted for every player, regardless of whether they have unlocked any of the new weapons via the accompanying Pyro-specific achievements. No further details were offered as to what those changes might be.
The company noted that player feedback from the Medic update, which added three new weapons unlockable via 36 total achievements, was incorporated into its plans for this latest tuning of Team Fortress 2.
"We've spent time looking at how the recent Medic release went, and have rolled feedback from that release into the new item designs for the Pyro and into the design of the achievements required to unlock those items," the company stated.
The new Pyro content marks the second major update to Team Fortress 2, and Valve plans to expand the seven remaining classes with new armament in due time.

The Spyro class has been officially added! Unexpecting victims will feel the wrath of my burn-backstab ambush kills! Thats the only time I'd probably ever use it though, otherwise soldiers and demomen will have an even easier time against pyros if the pyros just charge in after burning them in hopes of getting an axe hit.

or you will have teams of 2-4 pyros with one doing the burnng and the rest running around with axes...

2-4? That's it? I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 or 6 running around like idiots at a time.

I'm glad that they're adding stuff that doesn't require you to farm achievements for 20 hours.

And now for some fun...
New Patch Info (http://www.steampowered.com/pyro/?pw=presspreview)
Two new official maps (One being the Turbine map that usually clears out the Phlorph server...yay for that)
Meet the Sniper (Best vid yet, in my opinion, heavy and demoman are up there too)
And Pyro fun...
In addition to the three unlockable Pyro weapons, we've made a significant addition to the base Pyro flamethrower. By hitting the alt-fire key, the Pyro is able to produce a blast of compressed air that knocks enemies away, and redirects enemy projectiles. It’s a highly versatile tool, allowing Pyros to get away from nearby enemies after igniting them, to kill enemy soldiers with their own rockets, or to separate enemy Medics from their healing targets. In particular, it allows a skilled Pyro to contain an enemy invulnerability push, and even to separate the Medic completely if the surrounding terrain supports it.
The first Pyro unlockable is The Flare Gun, which replaces the shotgun. It allows the Pyro to ignite an enemy at long range, but does require careful aim on their part. It’s particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance.
The second Pyro unlockable is The Backburner. This flamethrower is built for the Pyro who likes to ambush their opponents. It removes the compression blast capability, instead guaranteeing critical hits whenever it’s used on an opponent from behind. To aid in survivability, it grants the Pyro an extra fifty health.
The third Pyro unlockable is The Axtinguisher. This mighty axe guarantees critical hits on any enemy that’s currently on fire, although it’s significantly weaker against enemies who aren’t. A great combination with the The Flare Gun, or with another Pyro buddy riding alongside doing the igniting.
I'll probably end up using the Backburner, Shotgun, and normal Axtinguisher the majority of the time.
Mmm, 50 more health, with mass crits.
Though, I will be using the good ol' flamethrower quite a bit too. Mostly when I see Satan, Cobra, and Trashed on the other team....
It'll be funny seeing some Pyros run around with all three unlockables out at the same time in maps with water. They won't be able to attack their enemies at all when they are in water(well besides a half damage melee attack).
Damn, I got two more months before I can try this new Pyro update out...that's soooooooo EVIL!
The achievements don't seem too out of the ordinary and hard...atleast for a Pyro addict. I think I've done the majority of them while just playing. Which I couldn't say for a lot of the Medic ones. "Pyromancer: Do 1 million points of total fire damage." I think I had almost 4 million total fire damage :P

Honestly instead of backburner I'd rather have an armored pyro with a movement penalty with a bigger tank of gas and a 30%-50% LONGER flame. Make it as slow as the heavy even. Longer reach, more survivability.

same those achievements are easy
I've done all except hot potato, attention getter, hotshot, got a light, and omgftwbbq (I didn't know it's possible to kill or ignite enemies with your taunt)
Mephisto
June 18th, 2008, 03:23 PM
well i've probably done most of them too but that was 12+ hrs worth of playing pyro
not sure if its worth using the flare gun... have to see how fast the projectile fires...
and the backburner vs. compressed air shot... difficult decision...
axetinguisher id probably use just to show it off...

Man, this look epic. I can't wait to play nothing but pyro for the next while :) Also apparently you only need 25 out of 35 achievements to get all the weapons, so this time we can skip the ones we think are silly. (I only saw three that really looked unreasonable though).
(as for OMGWTFBBQ, apparently the shotgun taunt does 1hp worth of damage).
