In case you might not have heard, at the 27thC3 (27C3) a group by the name of fail0verflow revealed that they officially succeeded in cracking the PS3. And not via the USB exploit found earlier last year. Without going into crazy detail, this essentially means that the PS3, due to hardware and software design issues, has been officially cracked much like it's partner the PSP.
What does that mean?
Well, custom firmware for the PS3 in the future, that enable things like running backup images of PS3 games.
Homebrew applications such as emulators and whatnot.
And a plethora of other things.

So, if you have a PS3, keep an eye out for information about it, I for one am quite excited to finally use my PS3 like I did my PSP.

Use your PS3 to play SNES games on it?

Looks like the development of applications and homebrew is going to stall for a little bit.
flukes1 and netkas (two of the individuals working on lv1/lv2 access on the PS3) have pretty much stopped public announcements of progress due to a lawsuit Sony has filed against George Hotz (GeoHot) and the Fail 0verflow team.

Not that I condone piracy, however, people are releasing modified PS3 game files that allow for direct booting of the hard drive on GeoHotz's 3.55 CFW. So...if you have a PS3, on 3.55 FW, and you switch to the 3.55CFW, means you can play like, 35% of the PS3 games out there directly off your hard drive.
