View Full Version : Regulars, Reserved slots, and you

So - I'm thinking of doing something like this - I have some fairly insane stats tracking on the server, and can know who is on when and so such.

I'm thinking of giving away x number of reserved slots for regular players

I'm thinking of giving away x number of reserved slots for regular players that open up the server with some special priveledges such as being able to start a vote of their choice every lets say 10 min

and working up from there, so of course "big" admins will still have ultimate power, but this rewards regs with some neat stuff. I plan on working sounds and stuff in.

With that said my #1 concern is the "start" up of the server. Once there are a few people on it continues all night, but to get that few people on takes a while as people join/drop off within literally a few minutes instead of waiting around.

I'm not trying to make money off of the gaming server on this at all, but the amount of time I spend maintaining it (which very few servers have the granularity of administration I do on phlorph) isn't worthwhile when I see some nights people join for one minute and leave, 30 different people over an hour, and the server never populates with the ironic part being if they would have stayed on a few minutes more it would have.

So I'm trying to do what I can to promote people "starting" it up. I can pretty much guarentee that I have the highest powered single instance of TF2 server on the net and would like to see it put to solid use.

I like this idea quite a bit. Usually if there's one or two people on Phlorph, I will join it instead of any other server. That said, most of the time I won't join if I'd be the only one. Some sort of incentive like this would make me want to get on the server and wait five minutes for someone to join.

The reserved slot doesn't really excite me as much as the other stuff, compared to a lot of other servers there's almost never a wait time to get on.

Phlorph is one of about three servers I get a tolerable ping on regularly. I'm just lucky it's also got some of the highest quality matches of any server. You can count on my joining regardless of benefits.

i so havent been around... so busy with school...

perhaps you can do a thing where stats reset every month to encourage new players... maybe have prizes for the top 10 (semi-admin privs for the next month or something)

I will be instituting the "rewards" some time this week.

For the stat wipe, it was done on an old cs server I was a member of which I liked, Seattle Vaginal Exuberance, however I don't think the "regulars" with high points would care for it with their nice point pools so far ;)

I am for point wipes, maybe once every 4 weeks. The grind to accumulate points gets old. I like playing with the regular people and to have a level playing field point wise I think it will make the game less of a groanfest for the high point people.

I'm ok with monthly wipes. hell, i'm ok with weekly.

perhaps monthly wipes would go over better if the stats for the previous months would be kept and displayed in some sort of legacy db. ??

you know what would be nice? Assuming this isn't already available and i've just not seen it, I'd like to see a 'all-time daily highest award' listing.

I had the idea when I looked today and saw I had the award for backstabs and axe kills (thanks to all you spies who actually know what you're doing for not showing up that day) and wondered what the best for a day had ever been posted.
I seem to recall rek had something in the triple digits at least once, but don't remember for sure.

be nice is all.

Yeah a stat wipe would be great every once in a while... takes a long time to work your way up. But, then the people with the 40k+ scores might not like it to much

Yeah, those 40k+ junkies will probably cry about it, but I for one think those bastard's scores should be wiped!!!

I think 4 week bracket and say midnight Sunday.

Can you keep all stats but the 4 week points? Not sure if that is going to make it too much work.

What do you mean by this?

I think what he's asking is if you can reset the 'points' every 4 weeks, but save all the other data.

I'll whip up a poll, at this current time I don't think it's possible to save "top" stats over everything, going to try and check it out but don't think it's an option right now.
