I hear so many good things about NS from this community. I'm excited to try it out! :D

Will probably run like shit. Pretty pissed off that they aren't doing linux server out of the box since it was like the #1 OS of NS1.
I posted my thoughts on the board ;)

Btw for those worried about the community it stayed strong for nearly 6 years, I don't think it's going to be an issue. The only reason it kind of went away was because source came out and it looked antiquated.

My only complaint with the community was it being full of arrogant douchebags :( Otherwise there were a lot of douchebags playing the game for a long time. Just made playing lame if they did not know you as they barked orders or kicked you for not doing exactly as they said, when and how they wanted it.
Game was a LOT of fun and I cant wait to try 2 out :)

Laff. So true. If you had a commander who was also an admin and this admin was very excitable and the type to rage if he wasn't winning....there would be plenty of kicking going on.
In their defense though...NS games could go on for hours and people have to invest a lot of time/concentration to commit to winning a game. you MUST play as a team in NS. If you get some douche who doesn't....he's gotta go (whether his strategy would be better or not). The needs of the many....
Hey zerv, post a link to where you bitched about linux (nice one). I'd like to read it.

the game has always been the most fun with two well coordinated teams. people who dont cooperate mess things up for everyone else on the team. I recall a game where we had 3 or 4 command chair relocations which included a vent drop that we finally won after 3 hours.

Ya when "combat" mode hit or whatever it was called it really brought them out of the woodwork. There was drama like any other server.
I do think we will do it right here though I hope ;) We definitely have our issues but I think we are fairly anti-douchebag compared to most places which will be good for NS2.
My favorite by far was the classic mode with "good" teams. We were part of a server called Elastical Gomez for a while that was run by one of our friends. It was pretty cool.
Worry played NS1 a ton as well.

I had fun with both modes, but after the pricks flooded around I stopped playing unless 4 - 5 of my friends were all jumping on the same server.
We had a few fav's that were decent until they vanished :(
If I saw them kicking newbies I always left as it was just shooting themselves in the foot, everyone was new at some point so just because someone heard it was cool and came to check it out dont punish them. Being a douchebag and barking orders or abusing admin on those who dont is pointless and kills the fun of the game.
Winning is good and as Worry said it takes a lot of investment if both sides are good but work with the new guy in a nice way dont just ban him :| I was not great at it but I got banned a lot for not responding to their demands instantly or building my towers a few feet off where they said they should be (I was the alien building most of the time)... Even if that was the only map I seemed to play and had a good strategy.
Anywho I have high hopes for ns2 and cannot wait to play with you guys :D Knowing a good server and community will help make it more fun anyway. And we can probably get new players who will be good and fun to play with who never tried the first.
Just the the TF2 community here.
Have they responded as to why they are not putting out linux off the bat?

I still have caucasian (the server owner zerv is talking about) on my msn but rarely speak. I'll check and see if he'll join the fun once we're set up but he pretty much gave up on computer gaming when NS1 died and was strictly console a few years back. Still, worth a shot. He was one of the few quality commanders. Good commanders were so freakin rare. Cauc was good, Mr.Do was good....that's all that comes to mind. A few others thought they were good but....no. I was horrible commander, decent gorge (till they nerfed my web...bastards). I fondly remember making Kevlar rage quit when I'd web/spit him to death. He just did not like to die that way. aaaah, good times.
Be nice to invite lickmedotcoms widow if anyone still had contact with her.
Maybe we should even resurrect the old DoGS tag for any of the old EG players we can round up.
classic > combat. no question.

Well, for those curious about Natural Selection 2, they're doing a Christmas sale, $34.95, and you get TWO CD keys, so you can give one away!
Just thought I'd let people know.
