View Full Version : Global Agenda anyone?

I was thinking about getting this and likely will do so if I can find at least three or four other phlorphers that will get the game - it's a half mmo half shooter inspired more by TF2. Also it doesn't require a monthly fee which is nice, there's bonus contet for a fee but I'lll likely evaluate what I get without it.

I thought it was inspired by the Tribes series more with the armor / class sets.
I have some clan mates playing it who enjoy it. Looks interesting, I will wait for full release before deciding if I want it or not, and how much content you get for free ....

I made a post about it in MMORPGs, but it didn't attract much interest. :(
Plus, it's third person, so not a true FPS, which might turn off a number of Phlorphers.
I got to play some over the weekend and thought it was very fun. :) My only complaint is that the level system somewhat negates the amount of skill necessary to defeat an opponent. A level 5 is at a slight disadvantage versus a level 10, and that gap is only going to become more apparent when the full version is released. It's something I should expect from an MMO, but I really enjoyed relying on skill, teamwork, and tactics present in the game as opposed to how much someone grinds PVE.

I loved tribes, and my clan mates seem to enjoy GA a lot. Torn between it and BC2

How is it? I got star trek online and its pretty boring. Does Global Agenda have promise?

I played the STO beta and the ship stuff was fun, but the other half taking place in those lame away missions sucked. Had a lot of potential.
I like GA, its a lot like tribes. Some of the game modes dont make sense as 50 people from both teams stand on a point and blow up... but other parts are a lot of fun with strategy and such.

*gathers a pile of every little thing this game is composed of* "Ah, look at this glorious pile." *Dives into it*
Fraggles. That's my in game name. I played eleven hours today and my eyes started threatening to bleed so I had to stop. (also I had to sleep for work tomorrow) But seriously... It's really fun. =3

If anyone is interested in making a clan for AvA, I'd be interested in paying that monthly fee. :) Until then, the standalone game is pretty fun!
Edit: Whoops, forgot to include my user name. D: It is Shadarzen.

My username is MrLevi. I haven't logged in yet though. I'd be up for a clan if I deem the gameplay acceptable. I'm probably going to play assault, since I'm really only good at shooting rockets at things.

Rockets aren't near as satisfying as TF2's, unfortunately. :(

I am not sure if I want to pay the fee yet. maybe once in a while for some of the mass battles but overall the regular game is pretty well done.

Rek told me that the AvA (pay to play option) is open to every Agency til March. It would be a good time to try before buying :).
Rek, Levi, and I also made a Phlorph group if anyone wants to join. :D Agency name = Phlorph.

Ah, I did not know that anyone had access to the mass battles until then. This would be a good time to try :D

Ok if you guys are behind it I'm in too.
Real fast, is there a realm integration system? I'm not making a character then accidentally dumping him on a different realm than the rest of phlorph.

Nah, the "domes", lobbies where you idle between missions, can travel freely among, and all missions are accessible from any of hundreds of domes. If you're in a team (or maybe agency? I dunno lol) you generally occupy the same dome after missions.

After a mission you are all dumped to the same one. But you can whisper and search all of them for logged in users and get everyone on a team for a joint game etc.

I want to see how it works too. In some ways I think the conquest mode is going to be the most interesting.
Here is a video I found: Conquest Mode (http://www.globalagendagame.com/Media_Videos_Conquest.html)
I also hope they expand on what agencies can do. It would be pretty sweet to set your self up as a mercenary agency and defend other agencies zones for a fee.

Everyone should play this game! I'm glad to see some phlorphers starting because I was getting bored of all the random teammates... Silly recons running off and dying all the time then blaming me for keeping the *useful* teammates alive instead of following them to their inevitable doom...
Levi, Super77, Ripskin, and I started a "Phlorph" agency - which of course any and all phlorphers are welcome to join as well. :D

I called it BFG. *gasp*

Hmm, the video I watched for this strikes me as World of Warcraft in space, with a little bit of WAR online tossed in to the mix for shit's and giggles. Looks like typical MMO gameplay mechanics. Is the video just deceiving me, and is there some great gameplay mechanic underneath that makes it good? Or is it just more bland MMOness?
Edit:
Looks more like Tribes + WoW, Tribes being a good game :o

I really don't get where the WoW comes into this.. Is it that items drop and there are levels? Because that's really all there is in common. It's a MMO so naturally it has some aspects that are close to WoW, also being a MMO... That's kinda like saying that TF2 is the same as Quake because you shoot people in both. Really there is nothing WoW about this game.
Levi
February 5th, 2010, 11:04 PM
Yeah, I'd say this is a cross between TF2 and Unreal Tournament, but with a skill tree and a few levels thrown in for the hell of it.
Ripskin
February 6th, 2010, 02:46 AM
I'd say TF2 and Tribes are a closer relation to this. WoW was based on other MMO's and while items drop you dont really have to go farm for them.

Since their website's faq is crap I'll ask here, is there a monthly subscription?
Milesprower
February 6th, 2010, 08:06 AM
The WoW part comes from the third person style of gameplay, not because of the item drop system. However it does share that in common with it as well. And Tribes, if you didn't know, is an excellent game, or was, when it was still around. It looks nothing like UT because UT doesn't revolve around leveling up, gaining skills and new items, and isn't third person.
Edit:
Yes and no Typical. You can pay a monthly fee for extra things, but it is not required to play the majority of the game.
Also, I wish they had a demo to try out, as I'm curious to see how the game actually is, rather than just go buy game play videos and the word of others :3
Further Edit:
After much deliberation and nostalgiaing about Tribes, I have purchased this game.

There's more important games to play and better uses for my money but I absolutely hate the thought of missing another gaming trend on Phlorph.

Still Science... Just because it's third person doesn't mean it's like WoW at all. In that many many other games have third person.
Milesprower
February 6th, 2010, 03:01 PM
Yes, I am well aware of this. However when a person thinks of another popular, third person MMO, the first reaction of most people is World of Warcraft. This is unfortunately unavoidable because of the effect WoW has had on the MMO market.
Regardless, why do you care about that? I'm much more concerned about it being similar to Tribes, and hopefully when people compared it to that they weren't lying. :3

Tribes and Tribes 2 were wonderful games. played the hell out of those lol. Although I spent half my time skiing around the long way to avoid battles to sneak in and blow up their base stuff.
There are aspects of Tribes and TF2 in this, its similar to both but not enough to really resemble them game play wise.
Tribes : In this you have jet packs, limited energy, have to lead off your shots and the large more open levels' (to a point) are a lot like tribes. Also large number of players per round make it similar to that as well.
It differs in that its somewhat third person, which I was unsure about at first but it works very well for this game. You can level your character and slide skills into different area's. Everyone starts with the same weapons etc, its how you spec your character to fit your skill that makes you better or worse than someone else (depending how you plan to play) This allows for a lot of varied play styles per class.
TF2 : You can build things, and engies play a vital role to the game. There is a teleporter, only one and anyone can move it to a new location. Choke points and cap points are great locations for the engie to concentrate on building. If he is not on top of it or his team does not help his stuff will fall very quickly. Done right, he can hold points and keep the enemy at bay long enough to pull out the win.
It differs in similar ways to the Tribes differences. He can spec different build options and such. What he can build though really changes things. Shields deployed anywhere can protect him from snipers for a moment while he builds, or give an area a shield so the few guys shooting out from it can do damage or escape without dying. A few working together can make nests that are very hard to clear without good team work. Very very hard for one lone recon to get in and take it all out.
The other two classes have similar aspects about them.
When I first got the game I was a little put off from all that has to be done. However After leveling my guy twice and getting some skill points to put behind things it started picking up. Now its a ton of fun. I know the role of my class better and for the style I have him specked for I can often get near the top of servers for kills, damage given etc.
I watched a ton of youtube video's on the game and talked with my friends who had it before taking the plunge on it. The monthly part looks fun but with my very busy schedule I dont know when I would have time, would like to try it though.

Answer me this, how's the Sniping.
Dont have to get in on a trend, watch the video's and stuff from players. If it looks like fun go for it :)
Sniping is pretty good actually. It depends on the map and how you set your characters stills. Sniping rounds do fall off and such so you need to lead your target and be very accurate. In some places this sucks as the enemy is all over the place and you cant hit him very well.
Some maps I can find great places to hid or hang out from a good distance and I can pick off a good number of people. For my skills I generally keep my SMG thing equipped as I buffed its range so its a great all-a-rounder. I'm only lvl 15 so when I unlock the better sniper rifle it could change. But we shall see.
Depending on the map sniping is great. Comes down to play style, it can be done on any map, but some sections are too closed in for it to be truly effective. Can always set up elsewhere and pick em off as they head to the objective.

Its a lot harder in this than TF2 IMO. But I know what you mean, some people with the better rifle and damage buff are still one hitting me or close too it. But if I am quick enough I can bugger off and find them causing them to run away or move.

I still play off and on. Get annoyed after 5 solid rounds of retarded teams. A few good matches are wonderful, but so many bad ones in a row kills it for the day lol. I wish exp was more even.
I kill the most on a server, do the most damage, did my job as recon. We win the round after a good fight. I get 2000xp, and a friend who was in the middle of the server on everything netted over 3k :\ I know taking first is not everything but I did the job of my class and was poo poo'd :p
TF2 is still my main game but GA is fun. Hope they vary the maps a little soon though.
