If any of you in the vicinity of Portland, OR haven't heard of PDXLAN you should be shot!! :p This is an awesome 500 man lan party that lasts 4 days!!!! It has a really relaxed feel to it and basically you get an opportunity to just hang out with friends, play games, and win awesome prizes. I just signed and paid for PDXLAN12 today which takes play July 18th-21st (Friday-Monday). Costs are listed here (http://www.pdxlan.net/portland/content/view/214/107/). The biggest costs are travel and the hotel stay. The hotel turns out to be around $300, but if you plan ahead you can always get people to help you split the cost. The last two LANs I've only paid around $50 for the hotel stay. Don't expect a bed each night, lol, but hey you don't sleep that much at this event anyway!!

The prizes at PDXLAN are awesome. One there is the raffle drawing that up til now I have never gone home empty handed. Once I won a $200 Mobo with 3.0Ghz proc (Engineering Sample)!!!! and the second time I won a sweet $60 hard drive enclosure and computer case! The event has contests of all sorts ranging from dodgeball to eating contests to just running up to the front with a specific item called at random! If you buy a ticket by the 19th you get 3 raffle tickets. After that you get 2 if you're among the first 400 purchasers and 1 for the remaining 100. So if you're interested go ahead and sign up (http://www.pdxlan.net/forums/reg/index.php?LANID=20).

Also they have around 5 different game tournaments at no additional cost, but stacked with great prizes!!! TF2 5v5 is one this event!! PDXLAN12 tourneys haven't been announced.

Well, so far I have two friends here in Moscow who are going, and I'm sure I'll get one or two more. That makes 6 confirmed to date. The hotel room is around $302 for three nights, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. Divide that amongst six and you get $50 each. With eight it goes down to below $40, for THREE NIGHTS!!! That's it, just $40 and you get a hot shower, lol. You won't be sleeping much.

As far as food, they bring $5 pastas, and $9 large pizzas every hour. The pastas are really good and worth the money. There are tons of restaurants within a two mile radius.

Today, 19th, is the last day to get 3 raffle tickets!!!

You do not have to select your seats tonight, just buy the tickets.

You leave your computers there the entire event. They have "hardware lockdown" after like 2am where nothing computer like is allowed in or out. The facility is staffed 24/"4"(entire event). It's a good idea to bring as box or bin to put loose items in, out of sight. Or you can place them in your car before the lockdown. It's not a really problem, but use common sense. It also helps to sit next to people you trust. (How well do you trust us Zervun? :D)

The servers go on "server row" which don't have to occupy a seat. It only costs $10 for the entire event to get it on the network. That is purchased through the PDXLAN store (http://www.pdxlan.net/portland/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=7&Itemid=32&vmcchk=1). As far as a set of block seats you'll have to take a look at the seating chart (http://www.pdxlan.net/forums/reg/viewSeating.php?LANID=20) first. The four of us are currently sitting at table 12. Tables 9 - 13 are the good tables to be at because they are infront of the stage, and they are going fast.

its true i don't want to bring my shitbox to nerd central, that would be the only place where nerds have the upper hand at making fun of me! I finally got some ram for it though, so it's got 1.5gb now, it makes such a huge difference I'm amazed

Hey trashed do you know how the tournament works? It seems like we are going to have 5 of us from Phlorph there at least, would be cool if we could participate together in the tourney

Basically you sign up for the tourney the first night (Friday). I don't know if they will limit the number of teams that can participate, as some tournies they do, so it's always a good idea to signed up first thing. You have to sign up thru their intranet so you actually have to be there with your computer hooked up to do it, or have a friend create an account on "alps" (game sign-up server) for you.

So far there is 7 Phlorphies attending, 8 counting your wife. I know the BFG's will be on a team. (Amemit, Muiramme, Cobra, and me). Nothin' been decided on the fifth one yet. I'm afraid I can't call teams at the moment, but I'm hoping to get more people to go. Would be sweet to have 2 Phlorph teams in the tourney!!! We only need three more. Smack SATAn and get him to come!! I'm working on getting some of our Cali BFG'ers to come up as well!!
