View Full Version : This has got to stop...

I've brought it up before in game and while I've gotten a some positive responses, I've also gotten a lot of grief. Apparently, it's getting to the point where it's a server wide joke, one that's not really funny. I'd like to get to the bottom of this and get it fixed for all of us. So, here's my plea.

Please stop stacking the red team.

Those of us that don't, we end up with a lot of people on the team that aren't good and aren't fun to play with. With that team we have to fight off the well organized red team with little support and a fuckton of desperation. We've all been there and it's not fun. And when I somehow end up on the team that all the regulars want to be on, it's a complete roll of the other team. That's not fun, either. I've seen this go to the point where half a team just left the server it was so bad.

So, do us all a favor and just auto, alright? This has gone way beyond just playing with a friend, it's making the game kinda suck for everyone else. Please stop.

we should start stacking blue instead, it's the right thing to do

I digress. This is an easy-to-overlook issue, especially if no one vocalizes their opinion. Kudos to Omega for bringing this up. It's easy to just play with friends, but like Omega says if the regs just jump on one team it ruins the game for the other team. Phlorph has this atmosphere we all like, that's why we keep coming back!! If new people don't get a chance to feel that, they won't come back, and Phlorph will dwindle. So Omega had brought up a solid solution to ease the tension on Phlorph. I will support him on this and auto when I join a game unless obviously it's already started and there is only one team to join (Be it red or blue).

I use to play Supreme Commander a lot and the thing I grew to hate was the negativity of players one with another. I'd read flame thread after flame thread and so when I played on Phlorph and met the awesome people that gather here I realized how bad Sup Com Community had gotten. I don't want that to happen on Phlorph! So here is my official hand of support on this issue. Omega you're a great player to play with and yes we can all play along!

i don't think Omega or anyone else cares about you ping Cobra . . . /bonk

i have been noticing the stacking thing, some nights its ok and other nights its silly. Muiramme of the [BFG] brought this to my attention the other night . . . kinda . . we had a discussion sort of along this topic . . ok ok . . it was this topic . . i was an ass and did something silly and she called me on it . . .yeah i was team stacking . . . .arrrrggg i'm guilty as anyone else, if not more than most . . i agree with Omega . . . so . . as of now (actually after Muiramme hurt my feelings the other night) i will autojoin and let the teams stack the as randomly as possible.

Also thanks everyone for the awesome level of play on Phlorph

respect!

I usually just hit auto as anyway, but sometimes I'll look to see who's playing. I like to join whatever team has a good medic.

I usually join the losing team.

However on dustbowl/gravelpit I prefer red.

Still, very valid points. I've seen this happen a few times.

I have said this for every game I've played online over the last 8 years.....they should have it as option for the servers to remove the choices and only have a 'join now' button that places you randomly. After all the years of servers having this problem, you would think it would be a core feature.
But, then there is also the very valid argument that 'random' will just as likely put you on the stacked team (in cases where you join late).

So, what would be nice is if the selections were dynamic. join late and you can only join the losing team. Join at the beginning and you can only random (unless the server disables that temporarily in cases where you want to hold a scrim or similar).

One of you must program this ability for us. No rush, just have it on my desk by Friday.

Oh, and if I'm on and people feel it's a problem, please just ask me to push the 'shuffle' button. I'm quite willing and, judging by the responses here, no one is going to mind and then everyone will be happy. It's a nice unbiased solution.

Actually there is a auto program out -

From some servers I've played on, it was kinda not that well recieved, personally I liked it.

If people want it I can put it on but I don't want to chase people away by that feature alone

there is currently a team balancing plugin in the works also

we have a stats mod here on phlorph, and I like to play for points. It really helps if I'm on a team with a good medic, so I shouldn't be penalized and forced onto a team with out one.

I don't think we need a mod that's always on. Maybe one that can be called up with a vote. Maybe initiated from within the chat by anyone.

I think asking an admin for a shuffle is the best way to go.

Perhaps a thread poll is an order? server mod vs. admin shuffle vs. always random vs. random at beginning of round and auto after that.

Honestly I don't like any of these ideas. Big surprise right? Rek who despises all things custom doesn't want more custom things... what a shocker...

I like the ability to join/switch teams. I've always been one to join or switch to the losing teams in the games I play (I used to be a cs addict)... but I'll admit on plorph sometimes I've let it get pretty bad, solely because I like playing with certain people...

I know a lot of the BFGs will join red, to play together, and depending on who's there (and how good the other team is) that can end up making things pretty stacked. Muiramme, Omega, and a few other regulars are pretty good in terms of trying to make it more fair. Every time it gets so bad that the blue team starts leaving people either switch or get switched; before that point the winning team doesn't usually notice how bad it is (or care, as the case may be).

I for one know it can be annoying to get stuck on a team that's absolutely getting raped. I try not to let it get THAT bad. Though I must admit I notice/care about teams less in this game than I have in others. Mostly because it doesn't matter *as* much. It's cool to win, but you can do a lot solo in this game (or with one good medic). I've been 5:1 or more and on the losing team plenty of times (that doesn't really happen in games like CS for example - well not half as often).

I think people can be mature enough to not let it get too bad, and when it does get bad enough that people leave it's always gotten better (either by choice or by auto balance). I'll do my part (the rare times i get to play these days) to join the team that needs help. If I join in the middle I join whoever has less players, I never check the score, though I guess I should verify they are also the losing team. I hate custom things... I'll do my part to make it work without mods or admins there to fix things, because in my mind that's a better solution...

I'm one of those crazy libertarian freedom always wins in the end types, though.

its been happening quite a lot recently, and usually i wont care, but its getting annoying when its night after night. if its once in a while who cares, but when its everynight and we lose people playing it doesnt help much. I admit ive been on the stacked team, or i change sometimes becuase its stacked, but lately i try not to, or if the teams are stacked and i ask 1 or 2 times for the stacked team to even it up i will just leave and goto another server. I dont want this to happen, but its just not fun when its 6 or 7 regular good players vs 1 or 2 and a bunch of beginners. it can easily be 5 regs on each team and its fair. It also pisses me off when this happens with a admin is playing on the stacked team.

Listen up you C*&K SUCKING CANADIAN...ha made you look. Seriously, send me or any admin an in game message via steam chat, if I don't see the first one send me another one. Zervun has added a plug-in that allows for a team scramble vote. We can put the vote out there for a rebalancing the teams.

Keep in mind this is a competitive server, and some people play here for points.

The other night there were 3 or 4 BFG on and Kefka and some other regulars. We all hit auto assign and still ended up on the same team. It’s not always intentional that the teams are stacked.

Hard to get a scramble when there is no admin. I have had times come up when there is no admin so if scramble can be a non admin initiated vote it might be better.

I think after reading this thread I like Rek more than I thought. Don't screw with anything lightly is what I take from his post and he could be right.

Admins aren't always on and when they aren't things need to be able to auto-pilot more if possible and votes are the most fair things I guess.

I am going to be putting in more smoochie boochies for reserves in - in the future -

I'm working at least 60+ hours a week right now and as you can see by my stats on the server, minimal time for anything else.

If you don't have a reserved slot, follow the instructions and bug me in the phlorph server forum ;)

I still think its an issue on phlorph. :) Most of the time I'm on blu just cause everyone else is on red.

Although I remember I had fun on another server where one team was completely clan stacked and the other team(with me on it) was a bunch of random people. The random peeps completely and continuously steamrolled the clan team :)

What a blast from the past lol.

Lol, I dont mind loosing, but when people just "join red" vs auto ... blerg.

The whole ghosting thing was odd. I can see some of the points if your dead giving real time updates to someone, but just saying where you died, where the intel was dropped, or what class a spy is etc... is just fine IMO.

Man, actually I take everything I said back. I don't care about team stacking. What pisses me off this week is completely useless people. Over the last two days I've seen.

1) Dude goes heavy and then spends the entire match watching 10 feet, then doing a sandvich taunt. Over and over.

2) Useless Pyro who simply jumps up and down for no apparent reason.

3) Red Engi on gravelpit who at the start of the match builds his sentry base right out of spawn.

4) Blu team on gravel pit, 5 blu players. Two engis who think building a teleport that goes 20 feet is being useful.(Nevermind the fact that you don't need any engis on blu on gravel pit until C is available).

Sadly, three of these were on Phlorph. All of them make me want to pull out my hair. :)

I don't even care if people are just bad. Everybody is bad at something. But people intentionally(I assume?) being useless when I'm trying to play the game is so irritating.

I usually hit autojoin.. although I seem to connect to the server before most so its only like 2 people on each team by the time I pick a colour. There are some occasions when I'll chose a colour. ex. on dustbowl or pl maps I prefer to start on the attacking side because usually it takes a round before the D is setup and organized and that first rush is a cluster. Or if I see Rek on one team I will pick the other...

Most of the time before prematch is ended you can tell which colour is going to dominate. John765 is not credit to team...
