Fuck this country is really stupid sometimes.
Nudity is no issue. But some mild violence is just too much for our adults to handle.

Can't you just download the US Client for Steam of sorts?
Or set your region to the US?
I mean, does Steam actually check your IP and the country it is in? I'd bet there's a way around this, or does it just look at what your client is saying?
Either way, there IS a lot more blood/gore in L4D2.

Last I checked, the reason it's being hammered so hard is because you're technically killing other human beings in an ultra-violent manner. Left 4 Dead goes along the lines of 28 Days Later in calling their zombies "Infected" instead of Zombies, and they're not truly dead, they're just messed up humans.
That's the argument I've heard at least.
Also, you can have someone gift you a U.S. version of L4D2 if I remember right, however you might have to have it gifted to a U.S. client of Steam as well, I'm not sure, but I know /v/ has talked about it.
Google is your friend.

There has been drama. One of my friends did it and he can't get it to work. To be honest I'm not trying too hard.
If they make things hard on me they don't deserve my money. As fun as the game looks, and it really really does. I will probably buy it when it gets cheap, or when I move to America. I don't know.

Not really Valve making things hard. If they did not censor it then they would not be allowed to sell the game there. Blame the stupid ratings board.

Yeah, I gotta agree that the censorship to L4D is stupid as hell, they're only zombies for chrisake! Next thing you know I won't be able to dismember robots because oil looks too much like blood and circuits too much like entrails.

Would order a physical copy from an North American online retailer resolve the issue?

Well don't forget Wired, they aren't zombies in L4D, they never have been. They're infected, which is human beings infected with a super-rabies like virus. If you read the brief from the board about it, you can see that this is one of the major factors in their decision, as well as the violence being constant, realistic, and against humans, all having a high impact.
Of all things to object to, I think Australia actually has their priorities right. Violence should be a far more objectionable thing than nudity or sex, unlike in America where it's the other way around. However, I don't believe it should be bannable, and that their rating system is in dire need of an overhaul.
