I know several Phlorph people have Borderlands, I am quite enjoying it. The only lame part is that it doesn't use steam for online games. For whatever reason, it uses Gamespy... which is kind of assbackwards in terms of usability. I had to dig up my old Gamespy username from quake 2 days. Once you actually get into a game though the multiplayer is really fun. If you have Borderlands, add me to your friends list: "SputGop"

everyone is fuckin blowing this game left and right. I just finished acquiring it this morning, I don't think the art looks very good from any of the screens i've seen. Way overdone cel animation, but we'll see once i'm actually in game. My bro convinced me to play it mostly because you get to kill midgets.

I really like the graphics.

I do have to wonder why this planet has so many midgets. Most of the population is supposed to be prisoners from earth, maybe in the future we jailed all the midgets?

Its a really fun game, I'd be up for some co-op.

Not too excited about fiddling with the Gamespy crap, though. >:|

I have no plan to get it right now. Looks interesting and neat, dont mind the art style but eh.

We are talking about the graphics being cartoony, yet we are on the forums for a Team Fortress 2 server.
Your point is invalid.
Also, the game is a blast. Way more fun 4-Player LAN than anything else.

I kind of like the graphics style. It's not over the top cartoony but its distinctive.

I think it is fantastic.

I love the art style, it's unique and it's VERY well done.
And the gameplay is absolutely fantastic, it's a ton of fun to play.

Thank fucking hell it's Friday. So! Australia finally got Borderlands today... I got it all ready before I left for work so I could inject it straight into my veins when I got home.
So I've played it for a few hours now, and I must say the best part of this game so far is the ambiance. I love the music, and I love the art. I don't get off on games that look super real, I'd take FF9 over FF10 any day of the week in a what looks better contest. This game really hits the nail on the head.
My only complaints so far are that the vehicle is a BITCH to not get stuck everywhere. It's really easy to drive, but for some reason reverse was not in their minds when they were doing up the schematics for the thing. "Oh, it will reverse if you're in an open area, but if you're stuck it's no longer an option. Haha!" and the amount of ammo you can carry. It's a little harsh. Maybe it's just how terrible I am at aiming, but it's irritating.

Now my eyes have that 'dry from staring at a screen without blinking for three hours straight' thing. Can't wait to play this game with some friends. =D

good thing I didn't mention them being too cartoony, you fucking cunt. I just don't like how over stylized everything is, at all. I don't like that there is a black border on fucking EVERYTHING in the game. I'll give the game props on everything but the art now that I've played it, but the art really does ruin it for me.

grassman, I will kill you.

Yeah, he didn't say cartoony, he said over-stylized. Ignore the fact that TF2 is extremely stylized as well :3

The game is balanced for that. Play in a team with a Supply Soldier (Or Two) and you never have to worry about ammo again. Or get some of the Ammo upgrades. You end up being able to carry quite a lot.

Yeah my main in borderlands is a soldier(playing through co-op with my brother). Its been a total blast. That support gunner mod is almost essential for the ammo.

I got a new assault rifle today that has a very fast reload speed and shoots like 3 bullets at a time. It also has very little recoil and good accuracy, its been a blast to use.

I'm playing through as the Berserker. I just hit level 40 and Playthrough 2 is looking a lot better than Playthrough 1. It is a lot more challenging and I really have to make strategic decisions as to what weapons I'm using and when to properly utilize my ability.

(Btw, mah baby so far <3 http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b316/magnadrak/Borderlands/gun1.png )

Stats mean nothing to me but it sure looks cool.

Can you keep any weapon you find or can you only hold a certain amount of weapondry?

super77

Unfortunately, you start out with a fairly limited amount of inventory space, so you'll be likely to be selling a lot of guns, and having to make tough decisions as to what guns to keep. As you get further into the game, some quests give you more inventory spaces, up to about 42, so it becomes easier to keep extra weapons on hand either for different situations or just shitsngiggles.

42 items total is the about the max, and that includes guns, shields, health kits, class mods, artifacts, and bomb mods.

Ah okay, just like a regular MMO then.

It is unlike regular MMO's in that it does not include a storage system beyond the player's inventory. Speculation on a storage system in upcoming DLC is not uncommon in Gearbox's forums. :O

Not bad, I've got a Revolver that does 450 damage with a +200% melee mod on it, but I mainly run with shotguns.

Got an SG100 Caustic Bulldog, 41x9 with a x1 Corrosive, 20 round magazine, and 1.1 fire rate, mixed with Lilith, and it's a rape machine. Toss that in with another Shotgun that has a regenerate rate of 10, and then another shotgun with shock damage, and I just run around pummeling things in the face. Then I put points in her talent to regenerate 7% of my shield per second after a kill, AoE fire damage after a kill, Corrosive damage when entering/leaving phasewalk, and 5% of my life back per second in phase walk, and on top of that 50% movement speed increase on kill, and it's ridiculous.

I literally just run around shotgunning EVERYTHING.
This game is so fucking good.

New Rule:
You may no longer compare Borderlands to any MMO, or to Fallout 3.
It has nothing to do with them. If anything, consider it Diablo with guns, in first person.
HG:L was Diablo with guns, in third person. It also wasn't very good.

Also, the funnest part for us (We've only played 4-Player LAN) is when you clear out Old Haven. The urban warfare is a blast.
This whole game is a blast (Unless you are playing Lilith/Single player. Uhg.)

Levi

Old Haven was a blast, I gotta agree. This game is a lot more boring single-player.

Hey, HEY!
What's wrong with Lilith!

Also, it's quite fair to make the comparison to Fallout 3, both take place in desolate, desert like areas, are in First Person View, are a hybrid between Role Playing Game and First Person Shooter (FO3 leaning towards RPG, Borderlands leaning towards FPS) and both are a ton of fun!

But what people should really say, is that Borderlands is a combination of Diablo II sort of run around mindless killing, Fallout 3 First Person elements and story, and in some aspects, influences from World of Warcraft, even the developer has stated this.

It's a very simple, yet VERY fun game to play.
On second play through, and guess what?
It's even better than the first.
It's like Nightmare mode in Diablo II.

Man, how do you use shotguns so much? The only good shotgun I found was one that shot rockets. I used it so much early in the game until it got outlevelled, but I have yet to find any decent shotgun that can match my SMG or rifles. Do you have shotgun levels or something?

super77

There seems to be two classes of shotguns, ones that shoot faster and more for less damage, and ones that shoot slower and less often for more damage. I prefer the first for situations where I can't easily melee enemies, and the second for situations in which I can. I think that depending upon how you skill your character, it is easier to take advantage of the varying weapons. With a slow, powerful shotgun and Brick's melee buffing skills, its fairly easy to take advantage of the delay between shots to get a few great punches in on those suckers.

My friends are extremely versatile and effective with assault rifles. I don't think I could accomplish it as easily on Brick as they can on Roland. But hey, its all about having fun with whatever works for you, right? ;)
